David E. Kelley's "Wonder Woman" television series has failed to find a network pickup at NBC, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The series was planned as a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman (Adrianne Palicki) is both a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles, a successful corporate executive (as her alter ego, Diana Prince) and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.

The pilot was written by Kelley and directed by Jeffrey Reiner ("The Event") and also featured Elizabeth Hurley, Pedro Pascal, Tracie Thoms and Cary Elwes in the cast.

With NBC declining to give the go-ahead, it is unlikely that the comic book adaptation will see the light of day as a series. What is more likely -- albeit, not a guarantee -- is that the produced pilot could be released in one form or another, as was the case with the unproduced "Smallville" spin-off, "Aquaman," which was released on iTunes and sold as a Best Buy exclusive.

Benar akhirnya tidak jadi. Setelah dari NBC melihat pilotnya dan kecewa. Tadinya beritanya skenario bakal diperbaiki tetapi tampaknya akhirnya memang akan dibatalkan.

Tidak buruk kok ceritanya.
Baru selesai nonton dan jujur aja, aku menikmatinya.



Ceritanya tentang superhero wanita yang membiayai aksinya dari penjualan action figure (kayak Adrian Veidt di film Watchmen) dan sedang menyelidiki kasus obat-obatan. Sementara itu, beberapa pihak merasa tidak nyaman dengan aksinya yang di luar jalur hukum dan cenderung menggunakan kekerasan bahkan metode penyiksaan.

Selain sebagai Wonder Woman, tokoh utamanya juga memiliki alter ego sebagai Diana Themyscira, direktur perusahaan Themyscira dan alter ego lain, Diana Prince (sosok berambut kuda dan berkacamata).

Overall, I quite liked it. When I was done watching the pilot I found myself bummed out that I wouldn't be seeing any more episodes. I really liked this version of Wonder Woman. She is a badass fighter with a bit of an unhinged edge that gives her just a hint of "if she got out of control she'd be scary". She's also vulnerable and relatable as a person which is crucial for a television series lead. Was she exactly the Wonder Woman from the comics? No. Of course not. But she's also not so far off as to be foreign. Ultimately, had this series been picked up I think we would have had an interesting new version of Wonder Woman, and a series that would have been a lot of fun.

Did the pilot have problems? yes! Was it cheesy? Yes! However it was also very enjoyable, and I can at least say I was never bored! The dialogue needed work, and the characters needed some more fleshing out, but that could have easily been rectified with some more episodes and a bigger budget. Overall it was fun, and not groundbreaking, and I am a bit upset it didn't get picked up as I would like to have seen where it went next, it could easily have become a fun superhero TV show in the same vein as Lois and Clark.

As a whole, the Wonder Woman pilot isn’t terrible, and certainly showed room for improvement if the series were allowed to progress. The focus on drama over action was the wrong direction to take it, but it’s not completely frustrating, and the show actually presents an interesting take on the character. I’m definitely biased, but the 12-minutes of Palicki running around in costume were totally worth the 30-minutes of exposition.

So overall, it was definitely a structurally bad pilot, but the real problem was the unlikeability of Wonder Woman. She is an angry, violent, mopey character, and not at all the Wonder Woman we’re used to from the comics and other shows. Her methods are terrible, her character is poorly defined, and in the end you either are upset with or feel bad for her.

Palicki is attractive, but the show is not done in a incredibly superhot, this is brainless eye-candy, Charlie’s Angels type of way. It’s also not funny. Wonder Woman has her obvious appeals as an action hero, but there isn’t enough shown of Diana to understand why she matters, or why Wonder Woman is ever Diana in the first place. Diana isn’t a secret identity to the world, it’s more the opposite with Wonder Woman having her own toy line and big corporation to handle her licensing and fame in the show.

It was tremendously lazy writing, and I’m not just talking about the insane s*** like the press conference to announce she had no proof. Want to make sure the audience knows Veronica Cale is evil? Have her sell her drugs to a young, bright-eyed high school football star from a noble, improved black family in the ghetto, with a single mother and lots of sister, and have his eyeballs bleed the moment he gets his college acceptance letter with the whole family excited because he’s obviously the first person in the family to go. Want to make sure the audience knows Wonder Woman is good? Have all the employees of Themyscira Industries waiting for her when she returns from her assault on Cale’s warehouse so they can applaud her — even though it’s probably midnight and no employee would ever stay that late to make the CEO feel good about herself and never mind the fact that illegally broke into a building a murdered a man who was technically doing his job. Want to make sure the audience knows Wonder Woman is lonely and tortured? Have the show end with her updating her Diana Prince Facebook page, and LISTING HER CAT AND ONLY HER CAT UNDER THE FRIENDS SECTION.
