In Memoriam Miep Gies, 1909 2010. Miep Gies, the last surviving and best-known helper of Anne Frank and the others in hiding, died at the age of 100 in Hoorn on 11 January 2010. Right until the end, Miep remained deeply involved with the remembrance of Anne Frank and with spreading her story. Every day, Miep received letters from all over the world with questions about her relationship with Anne Frank and her role as a helper. "I'm not a hero', she once said, "It wasn't something I planned in advance, I simply did what I could to help." In this video Miep Gies tells how Otto Frank asked her to help him and his family during hiding.

Those people were in danger and i was able to help them, so why would i refuse It felt like my duty, I thought it was very normal. Nothing special, i knew i could help them and so i did. And after the war i had more time to think about it, but Jan and me still had trouble with the fact that we lost 7 people. You can't forget that, it keeps coming up. And then i said to Jan, look, during that time of the war we didnt turn the other cheeck, but we offered our help to people...
