"Gundam" live action movie in works? It seems so! As the Legacy Effects, the visual effects team behind movies such as "Pacific Rim" "Real Steel" "Iron Man" "The Avengers" "Avatar" and most recently "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has partnered with "Gundam" creator Yoshiyuki Tomino to make Hollywood movies based on Japanese manga and anime!

According to sankakucomplex.com, "Gundam" creator Yoshiyuki Tomino will hold a press conference on January 21 to announce his partnership with Legacy Effects to "bring Hollywood movies based on Japanese anime and manga titles to a global audience".


One of these titles is said to be "Gundam" though it is not sure what part of the huge "Gundam" series Legacy Effects and Yoshiyuki Tomino will make a Hollywood adaptation off.


Fans of the anime are weary though due to fact that Hollywood has made adaptations of Japanese made video games/anime/manga and the results were not impressive, pointing to bombs such as "Dragonball Evolution", the live action "Tekken" and "King of Fighters" movies.


However some fans are quick to note that Yoshiyuki Tomino is part of the creative process and some of story that made "Gundam" popular will still be intact. They even praised that with the help of the big budget and the superior visual effects that Hollywood can provide means that the "Gundam" movie may very well be of quality.


For those who don't know the "Gundam" series is one of the biggest-if not the biggest-mecha manga/anime series in Japan. The "Gundam" franchise earned over 5 billion yen in revenue based on the sales of the toys, manga, tv shows and movies.


This is not the first time a "Gundam" live action movie was made.

A "Gundam" live action movie called "G-Savior" was released in 2000. It got bad reviews as it scored a 4.3 on the website IMDB.

btw kalo yoshiyuki tomino ikut terlibat, gw cukup optimis lah...
setidaknya bakal lebih bagus dibanding G-savior yang sampah itu

Bikinan Kanada + Jepang, dengan campur tangan kuat dari Bandai. Pas bikin Pak Tomino nggak di ajak ngomong.

Kalo gue berharap sih, supaya Gundam yang ini di buat dengan pengawasan Pak Tomino, tapi dengan input riset dari Hollywood(pinjem Oom Del Toro ?).
Terutama input untuk kondisi sosial budaya dan geo-politik dunia yang biasanya mewarnai cerita Gundam.
Soalnya, jujur, kalo bagian riset ini di lepas sama kru Jepun... Gue nggak yakin sama kemampuan mereka.

Gundam Creator Tomino to Work on New Animated Project w/ Hollywood's Legacy Effects

Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino discussed in a press conference the first projects in his collaboration with Hollywood's Legacy Effects via his company, Ookaze no Okorusama. He revealed that he is personally directing a new unnamed animated project, with many notable creators in the staff.

In addition to that, he revealed that the two companies are planning to adapt an unnamed children's literary work from publisher Iwanami Shoten into a live-action film. To make sure that the upcoming adaptation is faithful to the original source material, the concept work on the project will be developed in both Japan and the United States. The American side will handle the script and actual visuals.

Tomino noted, "My career thus far has basically been working in television anime. I considered remaking a past work for the first project [in the business tie-up]. However, since we have not cleared all the rights, I won't be able to tell you. If I could talk about it here, I think you can imagine what kind of work will be made."

He added that Tokyo-based animation production will be tough in the future, but he wanted to build a new production site. He is planning not only projects based on his earlier works, but he muses that he could still make one or two entirely new works "by the time I'm 87."

yeah. that bad. orang2 bandai berharap bisa ngebawa franchise gundam ke pasar amerika utara. tapi tanpa riset jelas bentuk pasarnya kayak apa. dan di perparah dengan ngambil partner yang juga ngga' punya gambaran jelas tentang franchise ini.

hasilnya kayak orang buta di bimbing sama yang sama aja butanya. kesandung di mana2. dan ngga ada yang terpuaskan dengan hasil akhirnya.
